"It costs about $2.40 to make one diaper, or about $50 per family, assuming the average baby goes through about eight to 12 diapers a day. Consider that most parents spend about $75 a month for disposable diapers, the cost savings is considerable."
This is the basis for Kelly Sangree's A Diaper a Day project. To provide families in need with reusable cloth diapers made from recycled or discounted materials.
When Harrisburg resident Kelly Sangree read a news story about young mothers who couldn’t afford diapers for their children, it struck a raw nerve.
It wasn’t all that long ago Sangree had been in a similar situation, as a young, financially strapped, single mother.
To help make ends meet at the time, she ended up sewing her own cloth diapers out of old T-shirts.
She decided to use those sewing skills to help others with a charity project she calls “A Diaper A Day.”
