10,740 Snaps Raised for Days for Girls

We'd like to thank everybody who shared and "liked" our Days for Girls snap-raiser on Facebook.  We pledged to donate 20 snaps for every 1 "like" received.  There were 537 likes, which translates to a whopping 10,740 snap sets!  That's almost $500 in snaps!

We are proud that we could help such a wonderful cause in some small way.  To learn more about Days for Girls and the many ways you can get involved, please visit http://www.daysforgirls.org.  In particular, during this month of November, a small donation of $10 will also count as a vote in the Champion for Girls Challenge that will help DFG win $25,000.  Please consider making this small donation here.

Raising Snaps for Days for Girls

Dignity can't wait...  (from DaysforGirls.org)

What if not having sanitary supplies kept you isolated during menstruation?    DAYS without school.  DAYS without income. No leaving your room... for DAYS. It happens worldwide to women in impoverished communities. Girls miss up to 3 months of school in just 1 year. Girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find... all to try to stay in school.  Worse, girls are often exploited in exchange for hygiene. It turns out this issue is one of the keys to social change. It's hard to imagine, but true for women all over the world.

Days for Girls changes all that, empowering Days of education. Days of health. Days of safety. Days of dignity.  So far our efforts have reached over 50,000 girls and women in 29 nations on 5 continents and counting. There are millions to go, and thanks to thousands of exceptional volunteers worldwide, and important collaborations, it's working.

There are many ways you can get involved to help the Days for Girls cause:
  • Make a monetary donation. In November, each donation scores a vote for Days for Girls to become a Girl Effect Champion for 2013.  Donate here.
  • Make a donation of supplies.  KAMsnaps.com has a Snaps for Charities program in which you can donate snaps directly to Days for Girls here.
  • Help sew liners, shields, or bags.
  • Check out the other ways to get involved.
From Nov 1 through Nov 7, KAMsnaps.com is holding a snap-raiser to benefit Days for Girls.  For every "like" this Facebook post receives through Nov 7, we will donate 20 snap sets to DFG for use in their liners and shields.  This is an easy way to help that doesn't cost you anything, so please spread the word and make a difference!

Days for Girls / Project Thrive Spotlight

We recently blogged about the efforts of volunteers at Home of Grace Care Centre to provide cloth pads and bags to the teenage girls and women of Kenya, most of whom must miss days, even weeks, of schooling or work every month because they can't afford supplies for their menses.

The Days for Girls program at Project Thrive serves a similar purpose. Comprised solely of volunteers, the organization makes, collects, and then distributes feminine hygiene kits all over Africa.

"We have one of your snap KAM machines at Days for Girls headquarters. Days for Girls is an all volunteer international network that began three years ago and from the beginning your snap machine and snaps have been with us. Today we have served almost 4,000 women (that's a lot of snaps!) and donors purchase snaps from you and send them our way.

It's a vital project. Every month women in developing nations face days with no solution to feminine hygiene. Simple sustainable hygiene kits help girls stay in school, reduce infection and face less discrimination at home, in society or the workplace.

Thank you for your quality supplies and again, thank you for featuring this important issue."

With Warm Regards,
Celeste Mergens
International Executive Director
