Then stitch around the front of the diaper, but only as far as the edges shown in the image below (not past where the elastic will go). </span></p><p><br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is so that we can insert snaps for the snap in soakers - you can skip this step if you don't want a snap-in soaker.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorials/diaper-cover/4.JPG" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorials/diaper-cover/4.JPG" /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: small;">The final product when you turn the fabric inside out should look like this with a nice trim on the outside.</span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></span></span></span></p><p><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorials/diaper-cover/5.JPG" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorials/diaper-cover/5.JPG" /></span></span></span></span></span></span></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Step 4:</span><br />Once you turn the diaper right side out, create a template to with two snaps about 2 inches apart and mark it on the diaper (on the side opposite from the snaps but towards the front of the diaper - about 4 inches down). Verdana;">Using an unpicker or your preferred method of unpicking, remove the aplix at the front of the diaper. Personally, I think the best way is to break a stitch every 4-5 stitches and every single stitch where it is double stitched (top left corner). It should then just come off really easily. You'll then want to pick all the bits of loose thread off.</span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row2.jpg" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row2.jpg" /></span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Next, cut the end of the tab off. This makes unpicking the tabs much easier - they will come apart. You can do a bit of manhandling here as the stretchy tabs can take more abuse (i.e. ripping the darn thing off with force, rather than carefully unpicking).</span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row3.jpg" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row3.jpg" /></span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Here's the tab, all unpicked!</span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row4.jpg" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row4.jpg" /></span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Now you're going to make a snap placement template for the front. This will make is much faster to do lots of BGs. You won't have to measure the placement each time! So first, trace the outside edge of the front and cut it out.</span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row5.jpg" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row5.jpg" /></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"> </span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><img alt="" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row6.jpg" src="https://www.urbanfinds.com/kamsnaps/images/tutorial-bg1row6.jpg" /></span></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Mark your snap placement. Keep in mind you'll have a little bit used for the seam allowance. You also want to make sure there is enough over lapping the old tabs and doesn't create a thick seam where you want to place a snap. I have leftover PUL that I used to create my tabs with and I also used some scrap fleece inside the tabs just for added thickness. I think that scrap flannel would work just as well for the tabs. </ul>
<br />
<b>What do the lengths mean?</b><br />
<ul>
<li>Size 20 regular length plastic snaps are commonly used on lightweight fabric. Ex: clothing, diapers, bibs.<br /></li>
<li>Size 20 extra length plastic snaps are recommended for somewhat thicker/denser material such as double layers of marine vinyl. Ex: snap tabs, key fobs. </li>
</ul>
<b><br />What do I need to install these snaps?</b>If you already have a tool to install plastic snaps, the same dies for size 20 plastic snaps will generally work with all of the above shapes.<b></b><br />
<ul>
<li>Exception:<b> Star </b>cap: are ever so slightly larger than regular round size 20 caps. <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/products/basic-pliers-only?variant=34146369985">K1 pliers</a> use the largest cap die (labeled T8A and included with the pliers). <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/products/kamsnaps-press-kx" title="KAMsnaps Professional Handheld Press">KX professional handheld press</a> uses the size 24 cap die. All other tools use the same dies as size 20 snaps.</li>

Open-ring snaps are commonly used on baby/children's clothing and other basic crafting
projects with thinner types of material (which should be reinforced
with twill or grosgrain ribbon to avoid possible tearing). Because the
"teeth" are short and each one needs to be able to self-pierce through
the fabric, these are not suited for tough, thick or dense material. </div>

<img alt="" src="//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1941/1997/files/longprong_grande.jpg?v=1506193323" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></div>
<br />
How can you tell the difference between <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/size-20-sets" target="_blank">size 20 regular</a> vs <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/size-20-extra-long-extra-short" target="_blank">size 20 extra long</a> KAM plastic snaps when looking at them?<br />
<br />
Since there is only a minuscule (0.6mm) difference in length, it's nearly impossible to measure with a ruler or even to visually see any difference. Instead, look at the side of the cap with the prong. Size 20<b> extra long</b> caps will have a pinwheel pattern around the prong (as shown in the photo of the snap on the right). The regulars do not.<br />
<br />
Size 20 (regular) snaps are the most commonly used size. They're often found on cloth diapers, cloth menstrual pads, and many household projects that don't use thin, stretchy or delicate fabric. The prong length on these are 5.6mm.<br />
<br />
Size 20 extra long snaps are needed for thicker material, such as double layers of marine vinyl for key fobs. (If the material is too thick for the snap, the snap will just fall apart.) The prong length of size 20 extra long snaps is 6.2mm.<br />
<br />
Tip: if your snaps are not closing properly, most likely the prongs are too long for that particular material. <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/pages/troubleshooting-common-problems#closing">These videos</a> explain why this happens. If you'd rather not buy shorter snaps, just cut the tips off the prongs prior to installation to shorten them.KAMsnaps.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15887287621090735294noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-560003723463314928.post-80261370349962893832017-11-05T01:12:00.000-08:002017-11-05T01:12:38.678-08:00Install Plastic Snaps with KAM Snaps Table Press Without Changing Dies (No-Change Dies)<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<b>Introducing the No-Change Dies</b></h2>
If you have a professional KAM snaps table-top press, you probably love it. What you may not love so much is the need to change the top dies for the male side and then for the female side when installing plastic snaps.<br />
<br />
You can now use our new <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/products/kx-dies-for-size-20-plastic-snaps">no-change dies</a> to install the entire snap without having to change parts. Works with size 20 plastic snaps and the <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/tools-only">DK93 table-press</a>. (Size 16 no-change dies will be available at a later date.)<br />
<br />
See how it works:<br />

<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sph4T6qcI7o" width="560"></iframe></center>
<br />
A few points of interest to note:<br />
<ul>
<li>The 2-piece no-change dies are the exact ones that come with the <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/kx6a-multi-functional-pliers">KX multi-functional handheld pliers</a>. These are our all-in-one pliers that are able to install both plastic and metal snaps (and are *not* the basic K1 or K2 pliers which can only install plastic snaps). So if you already have these the KX pliers, you already have the no-change dies. All you need to get the dies to work with the DK93 press is the single piece <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/tools-only/products/dk93-adapter-base">KX-to-DK93 adapter base</a>. In fact, you can use ANY of the KX dies in the DK93 press as long as you have that adapter.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>The <a href="https://kamsnaps.com/collections/tools-only/products/dk93-dies-for-plastic-snaps">original 3-piece dies that require changing</a> are considered professional grade. They are the gold standard because each die is molded to perfectly fit each snap piece to maximize precision. While the no-change dies don't quite reach the same standards, they are a great time-saver for those who prefer that option.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>If you're using these with a kick press, you may need to adjust the pressure to avoid breaking the bottom plastic die piece.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>If you also own the original 3-piece dies that require changing, you can use the metal bottom piece from that set with the top piece from the no-change set.</li>
</ul>
